Although natural stone veneer comes in thin or thick, also refered to as building veneer, we typically use the thin veneer. By using a fireplace insert and thin veneer, you can achieve the look of a full stone fireplace - at 1/2 the cost (or less) and 1/2 the weight and they are more efficient! Thin veneers can be used for many, many other projects like foundations, walls, entryways and porches. Generally, veneer is divided into 4 different types: Mosaic/Random (may come tumbled as well), Squared/Rectangualar, Ledgestone and Ashlar. Each style has it's own personality and create very different feelings for the projects. Mixing and matching of colors and styles is definitely allowed! There is no right or wrong answer!
